Time to change the world
Project Daylight began as a very simple idea. What kind of world do we want to build for our children? In my mind the answer was fairly simplistic. I want a world where people are kind to each other, a world where people speak up for those who are smaller and weaker than them, a world where children are safe and loved and know that who they are is ok!
The question becomes then how do I create this world for myself and my children? All of a sudden Project Daylight seemed a really good place to start.
So what is it about?
Its about making a commitment to speaking up. Its about putting yourself outside your comfort zone and saying something when a small person is being treated unfairly and letting them know that they are ok. It is about remembering that we are on a journey and accepting that as parents sometimes we are fallible and thats ok but when we are it is about being accountable and apologising to our children when we are in the wrong.
What if the grown ups in this world took a stand and committed to not ignoring it when adults are obviously bullying children? It happens every day we all have stories of parents brow beating their children inappropriately in supermarkets or friends who just have no idea.
Most of us are happy to say something if our own children are involved but what would the world look like if we said something regardless of whether we knew the child or not.
Most of the behaviour I am talking about comes out of peoples mouths because they are running on automatic pilot or exhausted or under resourced what would happen if people started to hold up a mirror for them.
The Daylight project is open to anyone who wants to make that commitment to creating a brighter and kinder world for all of us.
